Opportunities in marine science
Volunteering, internships, links, and more! These are things that me and other members of the group are involved in...get your flippers wet in marine science!
- Coastal Dolphins of Orange County Project (CDOC) at CSUF: An internship at Cal State Fullerton with Professor of Psychology Dr. Kayla Causey researching coastal dolphin behavior in OC harbors and along the coastline. Check it out! http://www.cdocproject.org/CDOC/Home.html
- Docent at Marine Protected Tidepools: Marine Protected Areas (or MPA's) along our coastline are restricted from fishing, taking, and harassment of the marine environment. Join the Laguna Ocean Foundation as a volunteer and help educate visitors to our beautiful tidepools about the precious life that lives there. http://www.lagunaoceanfoundation.org/tidepool_interp.html
- Whalewatch Naturalist Training: The American Cetacean Society (ACS) trains naturalists to go on board whale watching trips and educate visitors on the marine life they encounter. And you get to go whale watching for free! http://www.acsonline.org/oldwebsite/orangecounty/become_a_naturalist.html
- FLOW Plankton Sampling: Be a citizen scientist and participate in plankton sampling, analysis, and water quality testing from the Bolsa Chica tidal inlet and backbay. You'll learn about the tiny creatures that support the big, beautiful whales we love and get to educate visitors. http://www.amigosdebolsachica.org/flow.html
- Volunteer at the Laguna Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC): Check out volunteering at PMMC, a rehabilitation center for sea lions and seals, where you can educate the public on the facility and animals or train to be in animal care. http://www.pacificmmc.org/
